The Director
Every day, viewers are not graced with the opportunity to witness a film that encompasses remarkable acting, engaging dialogue, captivating music, and a dynamic and enthralling plot that contributes to the evolution of its characters. "Bolshaya Ljubov" (Marriage by Will) surprised and delighted audiences last April, leaving them eagerly anticipating its sequel.
When the shooting of "Bolshaya Ljubov 2" concluded on February 8th, everything had gone according to plan.
Key Collaborators
The majority of the crew, including the writer and cameraman from the first film, returned for the sequel. However, two key figures were replaced: the cinematographer and the production designer.
The script, once again penned by Olga Gurova, was an original creation, deviating from the novel by Elena Zharinova that inspired the original film.
The Sequel's Plot
The sequel consists of eight episodes. As of yet, a definitive title has not been chosen, although "Vozvrashchenie Sandry" (Sandra's Return) is a working title that may change.
Cast and Continuity
Unlike many multi-part films that face casting challenges, all of the principal actors from the first film reprised their roles in the sequel. New characters were introduced as well.
Filming Locations
The entire film was shot in Russia, specifically in Moscow, the Moscow suburbs, and the picturesque city of Suzdal. England, which played a role in the first film, was recreated in Moscow through the use of English license plates, street signs, and road markings.
Character Development and Actor Highlights
The character of James Harper returns to Russia, played by Andrey Fin yakin, who has proven to be a versatile and profound actor. The film also introduces Polish actor Pawel Delong and Russian actors Mikhail Samokhvalov and Boris Shevchenko to the cast.
Weather and Production
Vasili Serikov, the director, credits his ability to conjure ideal weather conditions as pure tradition. When a blizzard was required for a scene, it miraculously appeared, only to vanish during their lunch break. Moments later, a fierce storm enveloped the set, allowing the team to capture the necessary footage.
Distinctive Qualities
While the first film took a year to shoot with numerous unforeseen hurdles, the sequel was completed swiftly and seamlessly within a three-month period. It will differ from its predecessor in style and pacing, according to the director.
Fan Feedback and Future Projects
Serikov appreciates the input from fans on online forums, but he is unsure if any of their suggestions were incorporated into the script. While no firm offers have been made, he aspires to helm a small-scale art-house film that challenges the audience intellectually.
