Early Life and BackgroundVeniamin Zhak was a prominent Soviet poet and author who was born into an affluent Jewish family. From 1918 onward, he resided in Rostov-on-Don.
Literary Career
Zhak's literary career commenced in 1923, and he published his debut collection of poetry in 1926. While primarily renowned for his children's verse, he also authored "serious" lyric poetry. Throughout his career, he penned over fifty books and anthologies of translated works, including "Pro vsekh s razu" ("About Everyone at Once"), "Mudretsy" ("Sages"), "Kto skleval zvezdy" ("Who Pecked at the Stars"), "Raznye raznosti" ("Various Miscellanea"), and "Kogda nachinaetsya utro" ("When the Morning Begins").
Literary Contributions
Beyond his poetry, Zhak contributed critical essays on contemporary writers and penned memoirs about notable literary figures such as Mayakovsky, Nikolai Ostrovsky, and Serafimovich.
Family and Legacy
Zhak's wife was Maria Brailovskaya, a librarian at the Karl Marx Regional Scientific Library. His son, Sergei, was a doctor of technical sciences and a professor at the Southern Federal University. His sister, Dora, was a bibliographer and library scientist, while his brothers, David and Mейер, achieved success in the fields of statistics and veterinary science, respectively.
