Veronica Roth is an American writer, best known for her bestselling novels "Divergent" and "Insurgent". She was born in New York and grew up in Barrington, Illinois. Her mother, Barbara Ross, was an artist who lived in Barrington. Veronica was the youngest of three children. Her parents divorced when she was only 5 years old, and her mother remarried Frank Ross, a financial consultant for landscape companies. Veronica's siblings live in Chicago.

Veronica's father was German, originally from Cologne, and her mother came from a Polish family. Barbara's parents had survived the horrors of concentration camps, and they were very religious. However, Barbara herself turned away from religion at a young age. Veronica discovered her own interest in Christianity in high school and continued to practice her faith.

After finishing high school, Veronica spent a year at Carleton College before transferring to Northwestern University, where she studied in a special education program for talented writers. Veronica is married to Nelson Fitch, a photographer, and they currently live in Chicago.

Veronica Roth is most well-known for her trilogy "Allegiant," which includes "Divergent," "Insurgent," and "Allegiant." The third book in the series was released on October 22, 2013. The film adaptation of "Insurgent" is scheduled to be released on March 20, 2015.
