Early Life and Education
General Aleksandr Kirichenko was a prominent Soviet and Ukrainian military leader. He graduated from the Moscow Border Command College of the KGB (1970) and the Higher School of the KGB USSR (1979).
Career in the Border Guards
In 1992-1994, Kirichenko served as First Deputy Chairman of the State Committee for Defense of the State Border of Ukraine and Commander of the Border Troops of Ukraine. From 1994 to 1999, he led the same committee, becoming the Commander of the Border Troops of Ukraine.
High-Ranking Positions
In 2000-2002, Kirichenko was Deputy Minister of Defense of Ukraine for Military Policy and Military Cooperation. He also graduated from the Ukrainian program at Harvard University in 2000. Subsequently, he served as State Secretary of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine for International Cooperation from 2002 to 2003.
Honors and Recognition
Kirichenko was decorated with numerous awards, including the Order of Bohdan Khmelnytsky, 3rd Class (1996), the Cross of Glory (1999), the Order of St. Demetrius of Salonica (1999), and the Order of Bohdan Khmelnytsky, 2nd Class (2002).
Passing and Legacy
General Aleksandr Kirichenko was laid to rest in the Baikove Cemetery in Kyiv, Ukraine. His contributions to the defense and security of his nation will continue to be remembered.
