Viktor Kurilenko: A Life of Service
Early Life and BlindnessViktor Kurilenko was born on August 28, 1952, into a devout Christian family in Ukraine. Tragically, two childhood accidents left him completely blind: an arrow hit his right eye in 1957, and a wooden pen punctured his left eye in 1960. Undeterred, he completed school at a boarding institution for the visually impaired in Slavyansk.
Conversion and Pastoral Service
At the age of 18, Kurilenko became a member of the Christian congregation "Transfiguration of the Lord." He began writing poetry and preaching, and in 1984, enrolled in the pastoral program of the All-Union Council of Evangelical Christian Baptists in Moscow.
Radio and Television Ministry
In the 1990s, Kurilenko launched "Good News," a weekly 30-minute radio program that reached all of Donetsk Oblast. He also partnered with "Radio Church" in Los Angeles from 1995, hosting the 15-minute program "Life," which was broadcast to the CIS from the island of Saipan. Additionally, Kurilenko participated in weekly television shows on a local channel, preached at the Slavic church, and visited prisons.
Authorship and Theological Education
Kurilenko was a prolific writer, penning Christian articles, a book of poetry entitled "Life," and books like "Our 'New Life'" and "Life Consecrated to God." He earned a Doctor of Divinity degree and taught theological disciplines in seminaries throughout the CIS, the US, and Europe.
Family
In 1980, Kurilenko married Tamara Chaldysheva from Astrakhan. They had two children, Olesya and Eduard, and two grandchildren, Milena and David.
