Early Life and Education
Victor Morozov, a multifaceted Ukrainian artist, was born on June 15, 1950, in Kremenets, Ternopil Oblast. His journey into music began in the early 1970s with the formation of one of Ukraine's first "big-beat" bands, "Quo vadis."
Morozov's academic pursuits led him to Lviv University. However, his involvement in the publication of the samizdat almanac "Sunk" resulted in his expulsion during his final year.
Musical Career
In 1972, Morozov co-founded "Arnika," one of the pioneering Ukrainian rock bands. His musical repertoire expanded through his leadership of the theater-cabaret "Ne goryuy!" and his collaborations with groups such as "Chetvertyy ugol," "Mertvyy petukh," and "Batyar-Band Halychyna."
Writing and Translating
Beyond his musical endeavors, Morozov has also established himself as a translator. He began publishing translations from Portuguese and English in the 1990s. His most notable work in this field is his translation of the Harry Potter series into Ukrainian.
Social and Political Activism
Morozov's artistic expressions have often intersected with social and political movements. During one of "Ne goryuy!"'s performances in 1989, the banned Ukrainian national anthem "Shche ne vmerla Ukraina" was publicly performed for the first time. He also played an active role in the Euromaidan protests of 2013-2014, collaborating on a series of satirical songs.
Artistic Collaborations
Morozov has engaged in numerous artistic collaborations throughout his career. He has performed with Grigory Gladiy and the Telnyuk sisters, and he is the godfather of Marianna Savka's son, Severin.
Family and Personal Life
Morozov is married to Motria Onyshchuk, a lawyer originally from Toronto. He is also the father of Marianna Sadovska, a singer, actress, and composer, from his first marriage to Kateryna Nemirova.
