Early Life and Education

Viktor Borisovich Khristenko was born on August 28, 1957, in the city of Chelyabinsk, Russia. After graduating from the Chelyabinsk Polytechnic Institute in 1979, he pursued further education at the Academy of National Economy under the Government of the Russian Federation and earned a doctorate in economics.

Career in Academia and Government

Following his graduation from the Polytechnic Institute, Khristenko worked there as a professor. He embarked on a distinguished career in government and public administration in 1991, serving as Deputy and First Deputy Head of the Chelyabinsk Oblast Administration and Chairman of its Economic Committee until 1996.

Rise through the Ranks

In 1997, Khristenko became the Plenipotentiary Representative of the President of the Russian Federation in Chelyabinsk Oblast. He was subsequently appointed as Deputy Minister of Finance in 1997. In 1998, he rose to the position of Deputy Chairman of the Government of the Russian Federation.

Senior Government Roles

From 1998 to 1999, Khristenko served as State Secretary and First Deputy Minister of Finance. He then became First Deputy Chairman of the Government of the Russian Federation from 1999 to 2000.

Minister of Industry and Energy

On January 10, 2000, Khristenko was appointed as Deputy Chairman of the Government of the Russian Federation, responsible for federal relations, regional development, and local self-governance. He also oversaw the regulation of natural monopolies and the development of the fuel and energy complex, including nuclear energy.

Acting Prime Minister

From February 24 to March 5, 2004, Khristenko served as Acting Chairman of the Government of the Russian Federation. He has been married and has three children.
