Vincent Tan holds the position of chairman and CEO of Berjaya Corporation Berhad, a company specializing in real estate, resorts, golf, and gambling. In 1982, he purchased a franchise from McDonald's and later acquired the government-privatized lottery business, Sports Toto. He obtained a license to organize lotteries in 1985 without participating in a tender or competition. He also attempted to obtain a license for organizing sports betting but was unsuccessful.
