Violeta Tomić: Slovenian Actress and Political Activist
Early Life and CareerVioleta Tomić was born on January 22, 1963, in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina. In 1985, she graduated from the University of Ljubljana with a degree in theater and film acting. For over a decade, she performed at the City Theater before gaining fame in television series.
Political Career
In 2014, Tomić was elected to the Slovenian National Parliament as part of the United Left electoral alliance, representing the Sustainable Development Party. In 2017, two constituent parties of the alliance merged to form the Left movement, and Tomić became its deputy coordinator.
European Parliament Campaign
In May 2019, Tomić led the Eurocommunist slate of the European United Left / Nordic Green Left (GUE/NGL) in the European Parliament elections. Despite her efforts, she was not elected to represent Slovenia in the Parliament.
