Vishal Thakkar: Victim of Botched Plastic Surgery
Vishal Thakkar, a Tulsa, Oklahoma resident, became the victim of a botched plastic surgery that left him virtually without a nose.
The Search for a Better Nose
Following his divorce in 2006, Thakkar decided to undergo rhinoplasty to improve the appearance of his nose. He sought the services of renowned plastic surgeon Dr. Angelo Cuzalina, President of the Cosmetic Surgery Board of America.
A Series of Misfortunes
After the initial surgery, Thakkar experienced severe breathing difficulties. Subsequent surgeries aimed at correcting the errors from the first operation employed cartilage from his ears and chest, without his alleged consent. While the surgeries resolved his breathing problems, they also left him with a nose so disfigured that it resembled a "tumor with one hole to breathe."
The Loss of His Nose
Thakkar claimed that he never agreed to the removal of his entire nose, but the doctors argued that a life-threatening infection necessitated the emergency procedure, for which they did not require his consent.
Legal Battle
Disfigured and humiliated, Thakkar filed a lawsuit against Dr. Cuzalina. Dr. Cuzalina's unblemished record became a key argument for the defense, but Thakkar's disfigured face demanded scrutiny.
Desperation and Determination
Faced with the prospect of living without a nose, Thakkar remains determined to undergo further cosmetic surgeries. "I have no other choice," he states. "To be a total outcast and have no nose is even worse than being dead."
The Court Case
Dr. Cuzalina declined to appear on the Fox television show where Thakkar shared his story, citing patient confidentiality. Thakkar continues to fight his legal battle, seeking compensation for the disfigurement he has endured.
