Early Life and Career

Birth and Education

Vladimir Aleksandrovich Gramatikov was born in Sverdlovsk, Russia. He graduated from the acting department of the Russian Institute of Theatre Arts (GITIS) and initially pursued a career in pantomime and acting, appearing in several films.

Transition to Directing

In 1976, Gramatikov graduated from the directing department of the All-Union State Institute of Cinematography (VGIK), where he studied under the renowned director Efim Dzigan. He subsequently became a director at the M. Gorky Film Studio.

Notable Films

Blockbuster Comedies

Gramatikov's directorial debut, the 1977 comedy "The Mustachioed Nanny," became an instant hit with audiences. He continued to direct successful comedies, including "A Dog Was Walking on the Piano" (1978) and "Hands Up!" (1981).

Historical and Adventure Films

Gramatikov also directed films in other genres, including the historical drama "Georgy Sedov" (1975), the adventure film "Vera. Nadezhda. Lyubov" (1984), and the musical "Star and Death of Joaquin Murieta" (1982).

Fantasy and Children's Films

In the late 1980s and early 1990s, Gramatikov turned his attention to fantasy and children's films, directing the critically acclaimed "Mio, My Mio" (1987) and the live-action adaptation of "Little Princess" (1997).

Other Work

Television and Commercials

In addition to feature films, Gramatikov directed episodes of the children's sketch comedy show "Yeralash" and commercials. He also served as the artistic director for the children's show "Sesame Street Russia."

Film Studio and Production

In 1988, Gramatikov became the artistic director of the "Kontakt" Creative Association at the M. Gorky Film Studio. He was also among the founders and artistic directors of the "Starlight" studio, a joint venture between Russia, Sweden, Great Britain, and Denmark.

Leadership and Production

Since 1998, Gramatikov has served as the director of the Central Film Studio for Children and Young People named after M. Gorky. He collaborated with producer Igor Tolstunov on the film "Come and See Me" (1998).
