Vladimir Shakhov: A Distinguished Soviet General and Statesman
Early Life and Military CareerVladimir Shakhov was born on July 23, 1912, in Proezheye, Ukraine. From 1932 onward, he served in the Soviet military, where he held both political and command positions.
World War II
During World War II, Shakhov played a key role as the military commissioner of the 124th Separate Rifle Brigade and as the deputy head of the political department of the 39th Army. He also served as the commandant of Port Arthur and as the deputy head of the political department of the army in the Maritime Military District.
Post-War Career
After the war, Shakhov continued his military and political career, holding positions in the airborne army, the Belarusian Military District, and the Academy named after V. I. Lenin. He also served as the head of the Organizational and Party Work Directorate of the Main Political Directorate of the Soviet Army and Navy.
Political Involvement
In addition to his military career, Shakhov was actively involved in politics. He was elected as a deputy to the Supreme Soviet of the Belarusian SSR and served as a delegate to the XXII Congress of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union (CPSU).
Later Life and Legacy
Vladimir Shakhov passed away in March 1990 in Moscow at the age of 78. He was buried in the Troyekurovskoye Cemetery. His daughter, Ninel Vladimirovna, continued his legacy through her own contributions to Soviet society.
