Early Life and Education
Vladimir Zasyadko was born on April 24, 1919, in Kharkiv, Ukraine, to a working-class family. He graduated from the Kazakh Mining and Metallurgical Institute in Almaty.
Military Service
In August 1941, Zasyadko joined the Red Army. He graduated from the Almaty Military Infantry School in 1942 and served on the front lines of the Great Patriotic War from March 1942. He later became a member of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union (VКП(b)).
Battle of Dnieper
In September 1943, as the Chief of Artillery for the 209th Guards Rifle Regiment, Senior Lieutenant Zasyadko played a crucial role in the Battle of Dnieper near the village of Borodivka. Using improvised means, he organized the crossing of artillery batteries and equipment.
Liberation of Borodivka
Under Zasyadko's command, the artillerymen repelled eight enemy counterattacks and inflicted heavy casualties on the enemy. On October 16, they contributed to the liberation of the eastern part of Borodivka.
Hero of the Soviet Union
On October 26, 1943, Zasyadko was awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union for his exceptional bravery and leadership. He received the Order of Lenin and the Gold Star Medal.
Final Days
On March 1, 1944, during combat operations in the Kirovograd Oblast, Zasyadko was fatally wounded. He was buried in the town of Petrovo.
Legacy
Vladimir Zasyadko is remembered as a courageous and effective military leader. His actions at the Battle of Dnieper significantly contributed to the Soviet victory.
