Ukrainian Football Pioneer: Oleksandr Zubkov

Early Life and Career

Born into a footballing family, Oleksandr Zubkov's passion for the sport manifested early. As the son of renowned Odessa footballer Viktor Zubkov, he inherited a legacy of athleticism. After graduating from the Odessa Pedagogical Institute in 1992, Zubkov began his career with the iconic Chernomorets youth team.

Professional Breakthrough

In 1990, Oleksandr Tarkhanov extended an invitation to Zubkov to join Odessa's SKA, where he honed his skills for two seasons. Subsequently, he joined Metalurh Zaporizhzhia from 1992 to 1993 before switching to KAMAZ during the second half of the 1993 season. Zubkov became a pivotal player for KAMAZ over four seasons, showcasing his abilities in the Intertoto Cup.

Russian Sojourn

Zubkov's journey continued to Lokomotiv Nizhny Novgorod from 1997 to 1998, where he once again participated in the Intertoto Cup. In 1999, he represented the Lokomotiv reserve team in the regional championship before spending the second half of the season with Sokol Saratov in the First Division. Despite his time in Russia, Zubkov maintained his Ukrainian citizenship and was selected for the University Games in 1995.

Return to Ukraine

In 2000, Zubkov returned to his homeland and joined Metalurh Zaporizhzhia. He went on to play for prestigious Ukrainian clubs such as Dnipro and Chernomorets. Throughout his career, Zubkov was a versatile player, showcasing his skills as a midfielder.

Coaching Career

After retiring as a player, Zubkov seamlessly transitioned into coaching. From 2014 to 2016, he led the Second League club Real Pharma. In 2017, his alma mater, Chernomorets, appointed Zubkov as Director of the A. F. Zubritsky SDYUSHOR.

Personal Life

Oleksandr Zubkov is married with a son and daughter. His son, Ruslan Zubkov, has followed in his father's footsteps and is a professional footballer.
