Early Life and Career
Vuk Драшкович, born on November 27, 1946, embarked on his career as a journalist for the TANJUG news agency, where he spent a decade honing his skills.
Founding the Serbian Renewal Movement (1990)
In 1990, Драшкович played a pivotal role in establishing the Serbian Renewal Movement (SRM), a political party that advocated for a return to constitutional monarchy in Serbia.
JournalistTurnedPolitician
Prior to founding the SRM, Драшкович had already gained prominence as a writer and public intellectual. His eloquent speeches earned him the moniker "people's tribune."
Controversial Figure: Protests and Arrests
During the 1990s, Драшкович emerged as a leading opposition figure to the regime of Slobodan Milošević. He organized mass protests that challenged Milošević's authoritarian rule and was arrested on multiple occasions.
Diplomatic Ambitions and Foreign Policy
Despite lacking any formal diplomatic experience, Драшкович expressed a keen interest in leading the Serbian Foreign Ministry. In 2003, he was appointed Minister of Foreign Affairs for Serbia and Montenegro.
Alleged Bugging Incident
Following Драшкович's appointment as Foreign Minister, a sensitive issue emerged involving the discovery of illegal wiretaps installed in his apartment during Milošević's regime. Despite a court order to remove the devices in 2002, the operation had been delayed until his arrival in the apartment.
Personal Life
Beyond his political endeavors, Драшкович is married to Danica Drašković, who serves as the publisher of the magazine "Serbian Word."
