Early Life and Career

Waldemar Herdt was born and raised in the Kazakh SSR. In 1984, he graduated from the Institute of Agriculture in Kazakhstan with a degree in agricultural engineering. He subsequently served in the Soviet Army from 1984 to 1985. Upon his discharge, he held various positions in political organizations and the agricultural sector in Kazakhstan.

Emigration to Germany and Business Ventures

In 1993, Herdt and his family emigrated to Germany. He worked in a private farming enterprise in Neuenkirchen-Vörden, Lower Saxony. In 1996, he established his own private enterprise specializing in construction and finance.

Political Career

Herdt's political career began in 2013 when he joined the conservative Christian Party. In 2016, he became a member of the Alternative for Germany (AfD) and was elected to the Neuenkirchen-Vörden town council in that year's local elections in Lower Saxony.

Election to the Bundestag

In the 2017 federal election, Herdt was elected to the 19th German Bundestag, representing Lower Saxony as an AfD member.

Committee Appointments and Leadership Roles

Within the Bundestag, Herdt serves on the Committee on Foreign Affairs, the Committee on Human Rights and Humanitarian Aid, and as a deputy chairperson of the Subcommittee on Conflict Prevention. He is also the parliamentary group's chief representative for Lower Saxony, a founding member of the AfD's Group for Expellees, Migrants, and German Minorities, and a deputy chairperson of the working group on denominational issues.

European Parliament Candidacy

In addition to his role as a Bundestag member, Herdt was also a candidate for the European Parliament from the Latvian Center Party while representing Germany's AfD.
