Walter Abish
Early Life and Escape from EuropeWalter Abish was born in Vienna, Austria, to Adolf and Frieda Abish. His family fled the Nazi regime, first to Italy and then to Shanghai. In 1949, they arrived in Israel.
Military Service and Immigration to the United States
From 1949 to 1951, Abish served in the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF). In 1957, he moved to the United States and became a citizen in 1960.
