Biography of William Davidson
William Davidson is a well-known American entrepreneur, billionaire, and the owner of the global company Guardian Industries Corp. This company is one of the largest producers of glass products for various industries, including the automotive industry.
Early Years and Company History
The history of Guardian Industries Corp began in 1932 when the organization was a small company called Guardian Glass Company, producing windshields for the automotive industry. In 1970, the company opened its first glass manufacturing plant in Michigan. At that time, no one could have predicted that the company would become one of the most significant players in the industry over the next five decades. Since then, Guardian Industries Corp has significantly expanded and grown. Currently, it owns 23 production lines and 21 glass manufacturing plants located in different countries around the world.
Company Expansion
In addition to its production growth, Guardian Industries Corp has also expanded its reach. For instance, in 1980, the company opened several fiberglass manufacturing plants. In 1998, Guardian Industries Corp acquired Builder Marts of America, followed by the acquisition of Cameron Ashley Building Products in 2000, which is now known as Guardian Building Products Distribution. These significant acquisitions allowed the company to become incredibly strong in the market and become the main supplier of glass products in North America. In the 1990s, Guardian Industries Corp further solidified its presence in the automotive industry by acquiring several automotive manufacturing companies, including Automotive Moulding Company in Michigan and Lab.Radio in Valencia. Since then, Guardian Industries Corp has consistently been listed among the top suppliers of glass products to the automotive industry.
Sporting Activities
Apart from overseeing the company's operations, William Davidson is also actively involved in the sporting world. Even as a student at the University of Michigan, Davidson was a passionate basketball fan, and his interest in the sport has continued throughout his life. In 1974, he purchased the Pistons basketball team for seven million dollars. Today, the team is valued at an impressive 477 million dollars, and Davidson still occasionally participates in training games with his players.
