Biography of William Ouchi
William G. Ouchi is an American professor and author of books on business management. He was born in 1943 in Honolulu, Hawaii, where he grew up. Ouchi obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree from Williams College in 1965, and a Master of Business Administration and a Doctor of Philosophy degree from the University of Chicago.

Career as a Professor
Ouchi spent eight years as a professor at the Stanford Business School and taught for many years at the Anderson School of Management, University of California, Los Angeles. He gained recognition for his research on the differences between Japanese and American companies and their management styles. In his first book, published in 1981, titled "Theory Z: How American Management Can Meet the Japanese Challenge," he summarized his observations. The book became a bestseller for over five months according to The New York Times. Currently, it holds the seventh place in popularity among 12 million other publications in 400 libraries across the United States.

Contributions to Management
Ouchi's second book, "The M Form Society: How American Teamwork Can Recapture the Competitive Edge," explores various methods of regaining competitive advantage through collaborative efforts. He has also proposed three main approaches to the control of organizational management: market control, bureaucratic control, and clan control. In recent years, Ouchi has focused on the organization and effectiveness of school education, as well as issues related to district school administration. He published his review on these topics in 2003. William led a commission that proposed an educational reform program to Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger of California, and some of the professor's suggestions are currently being considered.
Other Achievements
In the 1990s, William served as an advisor and chief of staff in the administration of former Los Angeles mayor, Richard Riordan. In 2009, he published his book, "The Secret of TSL: The Revolutionary Discovery That Raises School Performance," which discusses a revolutionary approach to the education system, focusing on relieving overall student burden, appropriately distributing the number of students per teacher, and establishing intensive interaction between them.
Ouchi is a member of the Advisory Board of the United States Commission on Presidential Debates, the Board of Trustees of the Japanese American National Museum, and the Board of Directors of The Alliance for College-Ready Public Schools, a company of urban schools in Los Angeles. Previously, he represented the Board of Trustees of Williams College, KCET public television station, the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission's Consumer Advisory Committee, the Walt Disney Concert Hall, Harvard-Westlake School, and others.
