Early Life and Musical Beginnings

Born Cameron Jibril Thomaz on September 8, 1987, Wiz Khalifa is an American rapper. His parents, who were both in the military, divorced when he was three years old. Thomaz spent his early years living in various countries, including Germany, the United Kingdom, and Japan, before settling in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

Signing with Rostrum Records

In 2004, Benjy Grinberg, president of Rostrum Records, heard about Wiz Khalifa through a compilation of Pittsburgh hip-hop artists. Impressed by Thomaz's potential, Grinberg signed him to a seven-year contract and began releasing his music. Khalifa's debut mixtape, "Prince of the City: Welcome to Pistolvania," was released in 2005.

Breakthrough with "Show and Prove"

Khalifa's first full-length album, "Show and Prove," was released in 2006. The album received positive reviews, with Rolling Stone calling him "a star in the making." In 2007, Khalifa signed with Warner Bros. Records, but released two additional mixtapes under Rostrum Records shortly after.
