Early Life and FamilyBorn Christina Claire Ciminella on May 30, 1964, in Ashland, Kentucky, Wynonna Judd's name was inspired by the Route 66 band's "Don't Forget Winona." Her biological father was Charles Jordan, who passed away in 2000. Her family includes her mother Naomi Judd, sister Ashley Judd, son Elijah Judd (born December 23, 1994), and daughter Grace Pauline (born June 21, 1996).
The Judds and Solo Career
Wynonna made waves in the conservative Christian community when she announced her pregnancy with Elijah while unmarried. She has been vocal about her beliefs that marriage is not necessary for having children. Judd later married Arch Kelley III, with whom she had Grace Pauline. They divorced in 1998. Her second husband, former bodyguard D.R. Roach, married her on November 22, 2003. She filed for divorce on March 27, 2007, after learning that he had been arrested for sexual assault on a 13-year-old.
Wynonna's musical career began in the 1980s as part of the hugely successful and acclaimed country duo The Judds, with her mother Naomi. Between 1983 and 1991, The Judds had 23 number-one hits on the Billboard Hot Country Singles chart. They released eight studio albums and two Greatest Hits collections. When Naomi was diagnosed with hepatitis and left the music industry, Wynonna embarked on a solo career.
Solo Success and Autobiography
Her solo debut album, "Wynonna," was released in 1991 and became a multi-platinum success, selling millions of copies. She has since released eight more albums, all on the Curb Records label. The albums have spawned over 25 hit singles on the country charts, including several number-ones and Top Ten hits.
In 2005, the country singer released her bestselling autobiography, "Coming Home to Myself."
Recent Projects and Collaborations
In October 2006, she released her first Christmas album, "A Classic Christmas," with the single "Santa Claus Is Coming to Town" reaching number three on the AC chart. In 2007, she returned to the studio with longtime producers Brent Maher and Don Potter to record "What the World Needs Now Is Love."
Wynonna has made appearances on "The Rosie O'Donnell Show," "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno," "Biography," "Sesame Street," "Hee Haw," "Blue's Clues," "King of the Hill," and "Ellen: The Ellen DeGeneres Show." She attended the Rabbit Hash General Store "Hoedown" in 2004, appeared on "The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson," and showcased on "CMT Giants" and the "41st Annual Country Music Association Awards."
She provided the voice of Ms. Frizzle on "The Magic School Bus" from 1994-1998, played Audrey on "Touched by an Angel" from 1994-2003, and portrayed Cynthia Melvin on the sitcom "Hope & Faith" from 2003-2006.
