Early Life and Activism
Yuldash Akhunbabayev was born on July 13, 1885, in the village of Old Dzhuybazar in the Margilan district of the Fergana region. Growing up in poverty, he worked as a farmhand from the age of nine. In 1916, he played an active role in the uprising in Margilan, leading to his arrest and two-month imprisonment.
Revolution and Civil War
Following his release, Akhunbabayev became involved in local politics, serving as deputy chairman and later chairman of the village council in the Margilan region. During the Russian Civil War, he served as a scout and guide for the Red Army and chaired the Margilan organization of the "Koshchi" union. He also actively participated in the fight against the Basmachi movement.
Political Career
In February 1925, Akhunbabayev was elected as a delegate to the First Congress of the Communist Party of Uzbekistan. He was elected to the Central Committee and Bureau of the CP of Uzbekistan and became the first Chairman of the Presidium of the Central Executive Committee of Uzbekistan (1925-1938). From 1938 to 1943, he held the position of Chairman of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the Uzbek SSR. He was also a deputy to the Supreme Soviet of the USSR (1937-1943) and a member of the Presidium of the All-Union Central Executive Committee (1925-1943).
Legacy
In recognition of his contributions, Akhunbabayev was awarded the Orders of Lenin and the Red Banner of Labor. A memorial museum was dedicated to him in Tashkent, but it is now closed. His memory is also preserved in the film "The Fall of the Emirate" (1955).
