Biography of Yulia Merkulova
Early Life and CareerYulia Merkulova is a Russian volleyball player who has been a member of the national team since 2005. She is a two-time world champion, having won the title in 2006 and 2010. Merkulova plays as a middle blocker and is known for her exceptional height, making her one of the tallest volleyball players in the world. She began her volleyball career in Lipetsk, where her first coach was Igor Cherepanov.
Club Career
In the 1999/2000 season, Merkulova played for the Lipetsk-based team "Magiya-2" (now "Indesit-2") under the surname Rastorgueva. She then went on to play for several other clubs, including "Zarechye-Odintsovo" (2000-2009, 2013-2015) in the Moscow region, "Dynamo" (2009-2010) in Krasnodar, "Dynamo" (2010-2012) in Moscow, and "Dynamo" (2012-2013) in Krasnodar. During her time with "Zarechye-Odintsovo," she won the Russian Championship in 2008, was a two-time silver medalist (2006 and 2009), and won the Russian Cup five times (2002, 2003, 2004, 2006, 2007). Merkulova also reached the finals of the Champions League in 2008 and won the Challenge Cup of the CEV in 2014.
With the Krasnodar-based "Dynamo," Merkulova won a bronze medal in the Russian Championship in 2010 and a bronze medal in the Russian Cup in 2012. She also won the Challenge Cup of the CEV in 2013. In her time with the Moscow-based "Dynamo," she was a two-time silver medalist in the Russian Championship (2011 and 2012) and won the Russian Cup in 2011.
International Career
Since 2005, Yulia Merkulova has represented the Russian national volleyball team. She has achieved significant success while playing for the national team, including being a two-time world champion in 2006 and 2010. She also won a silver medal in the Grand Prix in 2006 and two bronze medals in the European Championships (2005 and 2007). Additionally, Merkulova participated in the Olympic Games in 2008 and 2012.
Achievements and Honors
In late 2006, Yulia Merkulova was awarded the title of Honored Master of Sports of Russia for her outstanding contributions to the sport of volleyball.
