Early Life and Education
Aaron Goodelman was born in Ataki, Bessarabia (now Moldova), to Jewish poet Joseph Goodelman and Mollie Fateles. He attended religious and secular schools in Odessa, and studied at the Odessa Art School and Commercial College from 1902 to 1904.
Emigration and Training in the United States
In 1905, Aaron emigrated to the United States with his brothers, Gershl and Israel-Mordechai. He enrolled at the Cooper Union Institute and the National Academy of Design from 1905 to 1912. He then pursued studies at the École des Beaux Arts in Paris and the Beaux-Arts Society of Architects in New York from 1914 to 1916.
Artistic Influences and Career
Rodin was a significant influence on Goodelman's artistic development. He was known for his facade designs, including the facade of the Sholem Aleichem Folk School in New York. Goodelman also worked as an illustrator for Jewish children's magazines and poetry collections in Yiddish.
Exhibitions and Recognition
Goodelman's first solo exhibition was held in New York in 1933. He was one of the founders of the New York Artists Equity Association.
