Biography of Abbas Khalaf

Abbas Khalaf was born in 1955 in Baghdad, Iraq. He graduated from Baghdad University in 1977, which was one of the leading universities in the Arab world at the time. In 1980, he traveled to the Soviet Union where he studied in Voronezh for two years, and then spent the following three years studying at the Faculty of Journalism at Moscow State University.

Diplomatic Career

After completing his studies, Abbas Khalaf embarked on a diplomatic career. He served as an advisor to Iraq's Deputy Prime Minister, Tariq Aziz, and later became Saddam Hussein's personal translator for 17 years. During this time, Khalaf developed a strong command of the Russian language and earned a PhD in Philology. He is a member of the Association of Iraqi Translators, Writers, and Journalists.

Appointment as Ambassador to Moscow

Abbas Khalaf's extensive experience and linguistic skills led to his appointment as the new Ambassador of Iraq to Moscow. During the ceremony at the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, he expressed his delight at the opportunity to work in Moscow, a city that has been integral to his professional career for the past 25 years. Khalaf firmly advocates for Iraq to prioritize Russian companies as business partners, particularly in the oil industry.

Long-Term Economic Cooperation

Ambassador Khalaf is hopeful that a long-term economic cooperation program between Iraq and Russia will be signed in the near future. He believes that such a program will deepen the economic ties between the two countries and further enhance their bilateral relations.

Personal Life

Abbas Khalaf is married and has four children. Apart from his diplomatic pursuits, he has a deep passion for Russian literature and enjoys immersing himself in the works of Russian writers.
