Early Life and Lineage

Abbas Mirza was the second son of Fath Ali Shah Qajar, a prince of the Qajar dynasty. His mother, Asiyabeyim Khanum, was a member of the Turkic noble house of Develi. Unlike his older brother Mohammad-Ali, who was born to a Georgian concubine, Abbas Mirza was designated as the heir to the throne. From a young age, he served as the governor of Iranian Azerbaijan.

Talents and Reforms

Abbas Mirza was known for his intelligence, charm, and military prowess. He initiated efforts to modernize the Iranian army, seeking assistance from British and French instructors. He led the country's administration of internal and foreign affairs, with Russian and British embassies established at his court in Tabriz.

Military Campaigns

Abbas Mirza commanded Iranian forces in several wars:
Russo-Persian War (1804-1813)
Irano-Turkish War (1821-1823)
Russo-Persian War (1826-1828)

In 1828, he negotiated the Treaty of Turkmanchay with Russia, ending the Russo-Persian War.

Final Years and Death

After the war, Abbas Mirza led campaigns against Kurdish tribes. He died while leading an expedition against Herat, just months before his father's passing.
