Early Career
Abdelkader Ghezzal, a French-Algerian forward, began his career at Saint-Priest, where he scored 11 goals in 22 appearances during the 2004-05 season. He then moved to Italian Serie B club Crotone in 2005, playing only 6 games before joining Biella in Serie C2.
Rise in Serie C
In January 2006, Ghezzal transferred to Pro Sesto, scoring 9 goals in 31 matches. His return to Crotone in 2007 marked a turning point, as he became the second-highest goal scorer in Serie C1 with 20 goals in 33 games, making him the first foreigner to achieve such a high ranking in the league.
Serie A and Loan Spells
Ghezzal's impressive performance caught the attention of Siena, who co-owned him with Genoa for €3 million in 2008. He signed a contract until 2012. After a season with Bari in 2010-11, he was loaned out to Cesena and Levante.
International Career
On October 23, 2008, Ghezzal announced his decision to play for Algeria. He made his debut on November 18 against Mali (1-1) and scored his first international goal on February 11, 2009, in a 2-1 victory over Benin.
World Cup Controversy
During the 2010 World Cup match against Slovenia, Ghezzal received two yellow cards and was sent off, leading to Slovenia scoring a goal and defeating Algeria 1-0.
