Abdihakem Abdirahman is an American athlete who specializes in long-distance running. He is considered one of the leading athletes in his field. Currently, he is a member of the United States national team representing the country at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, China.
Early Life and Education
Abdihakem Abdirahman was born on January 1, 1977, in Somalia. He currently resides in California and is a member of the Nike sports club. Abdirahman is coached by James Li. He attended Tucson High School and graduated in 1995. He then enrolled in Pima College and completed his education in 1997. He later pursued further education at an Arizona educational institution and received his diploma in 1999.
Athletic Career
Abdirahman's athletic career began to flourish during his time as a student. He participated in various competitions and achieved honorable placements. For instance, in 1996 and 1997, he competed in the University Championships and became a two-time champion.
In 2000, Abdirahman finished third in the Olympic qualifying races for the 10,000 meters event and placed tenth in the 2000 Olympics. In 2001, he competed in the USA Outdoors, World Outdoor Champs, U.S. Winter XC Nationals, IAAF World XC Championships, and Goodwill Games. The following year, he participated in USA Outdoors, USA Winter XC Champs, Gate River Run, and Oracle U.S. Open.
The years 2003 and 2004 were particularly eventful in Abdirahman's career. The Summer Olympics in Athens in 2004 played a significant role as he finished fifteenth, although his efforts were commendable. The following year, he won the USA Outdoor Championships for the 10,000 meters event. In 2006, he placed fourth in the Chicago Marathon, fifth in the Track Classic, and tenth in the London Grand Prix.
In 2007, Abdirahman competed in the USA Outdoor Championships, World Outdoors, and Hengelo. He successfully qualified for the 2008 Olympics and was selected to represent the United States in the national team.
