Biography of Abdulla Karsakbaev

Abdulla Karsakbaev was a Kazakh Soviet film director and honored artist of the Kazakh SSR (1978). He graduated from the directing department of VGIK (Moscow Film School) in 1956, studying under the guidance of renowned directors M.E. Chiaureli and I.A. Pyriev.

From 1947 to 1983, Karsakbaev worked as a director at the "Kazakhfilm" studio, where he contributed to the creation of various feature films. Some notable works include "Mother and Son" (1955) and "If Each of Us..." (1961), both co-directed with S.K. Khodjikov, as well as "The Winged Gift" (1956), co-directed with A. Slobodnik and E.I. Faik, and "Botagoz" (1957), co-directed with E.E. Aron.

Karsakbaev also directed films on historical and revolutionary themes, such as "Anxious Morning" (1968) and "Chase in the Steppe" (1979), which earned him the Silver Medal of VDNKh USSR.

In addition, Karsakbaev adapted several children's films for the screen, including "My Name is Kozha" (1963) with T.B. Duisebaev, which received awards at film competitions in Central Asia and Kazakhstan in 1964, as well as at the Cannes Film Festival in 1967. Other notable children's films directed by Karsakbaev include "Journey to Childhood" (1969), "My Brother" (1972), "Run, Before It's Too Late" (1974, TV movie), "Hey, Cowboys!" (1975), "Alpamys Goes to School" (1976, Grand Prize at the 10th All-Union Film Festival in Riga, 1977), and "Salty River of Childhood" (1972).

Karsakbaev also directed several documentary films, including "Crafts of the Kazakhs" (1958), "Turgai Horizons" (1963), "Defense of Cherkassy" (1970), and "Aktobe" (1978).

On July 24, 2001, Abdulla Karsakbaev's name was given to the Zhanaqurylys Secondary School in the Uzynagash village of Zhambyl District, Almaty Region.
