Early Career in Nigeria
Abiodun Baruwa's footballing journey commenced in 1991 with Kano Pillars, a club formed the previous year. In 1993, he joined Iwuanyanwu Nationale and promptly lifted the Nigerian championship in his debut season. The following year, they reached the quarterfinals of the Champions League, but tragedy struck when a plane crash in Tamanrasset claimed the lives of two of Baruwa's teammates.
Triumph and Tribulation with Shooting Stars
After two seasons at Iwuanyanwu, Baruwa switched to Shooting Stars. With the Stars, he secured a league and cup double in 1995, followed by a run to the final of the CAF Champions League a year later. During this period, Baruwa earned three caps for the Nigerian national team as their third-choice goalkeeper.
European Adventure
In 1997, Baruwa ventured to Europe, briefly trying out for Moscow's Spartak before being dismissed after conceding four goals in two matches. He subsequently moved to Switzerland, making a solitary appearance for Sion, and then to Austria, where he played for Sturm.
Career Epilogue in Britain
Baruwa concluded his career in the United Kingdom, featuring for Barry Town and Hornchurch.
