Adam Gottlieb Casparini: A Master Organ Builder of the 18th Century

Born into a family of renowned organ builders, Adam Gottlieb Casparini emerged as a leading figure in the craft during the 18th century. His grandfather, Eugenio Casparini (aka Johann Caspar Casparini), had been a renowned Italian organ maker of German descent. His father, Adam Horatio Casparini, also pursued the trade.

Apprenticeship and Early Career

Until 1737, Casparini honed his skills as an apprentice under Johann Gottfried Heinrich Trost in Altenburg. Afterwards, he worked independently in Breslau (now Wrocław).

Influence in Königsberg

Subsequently, Casparini established himself in Königsberg, where his exceptional artistry became apparent. Organs crafted by his hands graced the hallowed halls of churches throughout the city.

A Legacy Preserved

Casparini's masterpieces extended beyond the borders of Königsberg. In 1839, the Vilnius Church of Saints John received an organ originally built by Casparini. This instrument, transported from Polotsk in 1836, weighed an astonishing 20.25 tons and arrived in 84 crates.
