Asmir Begović: Bosnian Goalkeeper and International Icon
Early Life and Club CareerAsmir Begović is a Bosnian professional footballer who serves as a goalkeeper. Born in Trebinje, Yugoslavia, Begović's footballing journey began with local clubs before he joined the youth academy of FK Velež Mostar.
After graduating from Velež, Begović caught the attention of English Premier League side Portsmouth. He joined the club in 2003 and made his professional debut in 2005. Begović spent seven seasons with Portsmouth, establishing himself as a reliable goalkeeper.
Premier League Success
In 2010, Begović moved to Stoke City, another Premier League club. He quickly became a key player for the Potters, making over 200 appearances for the club. Begović's performances earned him recognition as one of the league's top goalkeepers.
International Career
Begović made his international debut for the Bosnia and Herzegovina national team in 2009. He has since represented his country in over 60 matches, including 17 FIFA World Cup qualifiers. Begović has played a pivotal role in Bosnia and Herzegovina's successes on the international stage.
Later Career
After leaving Stoke City in 2018, Begović signed for Russian Premier League club FC Akhmat Grozny. He spent two seasons in Russia before returning to England with AFC Bournemouth in 2020. In 2023, Begović joined AC Milan on a free transfer, where he serves as a backup goalkeeper.
