Erik Arup
Early Life and EducationErik Arup was born in Northern Schleswig, which was then part of Denmark. He attended school in Flensburg and subsequently studied at the University of Copenhagen, initially specializing in natural sciences but later switching to history, philosophy, and literature.
Teaching and Library Career
In 1863, Arup returned to Flensburg as a teacher and librarian. However, when the Second Schleswig War ended with Flensburg being ceded to Prussia, Arup relocated to Copenhagen once again.

From 1869 onwards, Arup was employed at the Danish State Archives, where he eventually rose to become its head. During his tenure, he published numerous historical works, including a series of biographical books.
