Biography of Adolf Jenson

German pianist and composer Adolf Jenson was a self-taught musician in his childhood, and later studied with Friedrich Marpurg and Louis Ehlert in his hometown. In 1856, he traveled to Russia to work as a music teacher, and later became a conductor at the Poznan Opera. From 1858 to 1859, Jenson studied with Niels Gade in Copenhagen before returning to Königsberg. He taught at the Higher Piano Mastery School of Carl Tausig in Berlin from 1866 to 1868. Afterward, he worked in Dresden, Graz, and Baden-Baden. During his later years, Jenson was close friends with Johannes Brahms and was considered a follower of the tradition of Robert Schumann. His compositional legacy primarily consists of piano compositions such as sonatas, numerous etudes, piano pieces for four hands, and a total of 176 songs.
