Early Life and EducationArturo Benedetti Michelangeli was born in Brescia, Italy on January 5, 1920. He began playing the piano at an early age, displaying an exceptional talent that led him to study withErnesto Drangosch in Buenos Aires. Later, Michelangeli moved to Italy where he enrolled at the Milan Conservatory under the tutelage of Carlo Lonati.
Concert Career
In his early 20s, Michelangeli launched his concert career, performing throughout Italy and Europe. His virtuosic playing and intense interpretations quickly established him as one of the most acclaimed pianists of his era.
Teaching Legacy
In 1953, an injury to Michelangeli's finger forced him to retire from concert performance. He subsequently dedicated his career to teaching, becoming an influential figure in the world of piano instruction. Among his notable students was the renowned pianist, Maurizio Pollini.
