Early Life and College Career

Adonal David Foyle, born on March 9, 1975, in Canouan, Saint Vincent, moved to the United States at age 15 and was adopted by Joan and Jay Mundahl, professors at Colgate University. Attending Hamilton Central School in Hamilton, New York, Foyle led the Emerald Knights to two state championships.

At Colgate University, Foyle excelled in basketball for the Colgate University Raiders. He became his team's all-time leader in blocks and second in career points. By the time he left the team, he held the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I record for career blocks (492) despite playing only three seasons of college basketball. This record stood until 2002 when it was broken by Wojciech Myrda.

NBA Career

Golden State Warriors (1997-2007)

Foyle was drafted eighth overall by the Golden State Warriors in the 1997 NBA Draft and played with the team for ten seasons. He averaged 4.1 points and 1.6 blocks per game and was a three-time top-ten finisher in blocks. In July 2004, he signed a six-year, $42 million contract with the Warriors.

Orlando Magic (2007-2009)

After a reduced role under coach Don Nelson in the 2006-2007 season, Foyle was traded on August 13, 2007, with three years remaining on his contract (valued at approximately $29.3 million). On August 23, he signed a one-year, veteran's minimum deal with the Orlando Magic. He re-signed with Orlando for another year at the same salary on August 2, 2008.

Memphis Grizzlies and Return to Orlando (2009)

On February 19, 2009, Foyle was traded to the Memphis Grizzlies. He was waived on March 1, 2009, and returned to Orlando on a one-year deal on March 23. He re-joined the Magic again on August 27, 2009, signing another one-year contract.

Social Activism and Other Interests

Democracy Matters

After graduating from Colgate with a degree in history, Foyle pursued social activism. In 2001, he founded Democracy Matters, an organization dedicated to combating corruption in government. The organization has conducted numerous campaigns, advocating for campaign finance reform and increased election integrity.

Writing

In his spare time, Foyle writes poetry and serves as a book reviewer for HOOP Magazine.

Personal Life

Foyle became a naturalized American citizen on March 13, 2007, after living in the United States for 18 years. He currently serves on the National Basketball Players Association's Executive Committee.
