Adrian Gunnell: English Snooker Star
Adrian Gunnell is an English professional snooker player whose most successful season was 2007/08 when he ranked 36th in the world.
Tournament Success
Gunnell's most notable achievement was reaching the second round (last 16) of the Shanghai Masters in 2007/08, where he defeated Ali Carter but lost to eventual tournament winner Dominic Dale. He has also reached the last 16 on three other occasions: the Thailand Masters in 2001, the China Open in 2005, and the Grand Prix in 2008. At the 2008 Grand Prix, he notably defeated Shaun Murphy in the first round before losing a closely fought match to Steve Davis in the last 16.
Quest for the Crucible
Despite his success in other tournaments, Gunnell has never reached the main stage of the World Championship at the Crucible Theatre in Sheffield. He has come close, however, reaching the final qualifying round from 2006 to 2010.
Maximums and Accolades
Gunnell made a remarkable achievement in 2003 by hitting three maximum breaks in four frames while playing with Ian Duffy at a club in Telford. He also made a 147 break during the qualifying rounds of the Thailand Masters in the 1998/99 season.
Health Scare
In 2009, Gunnell became one of several sports stars who were diagnosed with symptoms of swine flu.
