Biography of Adriana Barraza

Adriana Barraza (born on March 5, 1956) is a Mexican film and television actress, and film director. She is best known for her work in telenovelas for the television company "Televisa". Barraza has been nominated for a Golden Globe, two Screen Actors Guild Awards, a Broadcast Film Critics Association Award, and an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress.

Early Life and Career

Barraza was born in Toluca, central Mexico. Initially, she planned to dedicate her life to science and studied chemistry for four years. However, she realized her true passion was acting and decided to pursue a career in the performing arts. She enrolled in the theater department at the Universidad Autonoma de Chihuahua (Independent University of Chihuahua).

After some time, Barraza moved to Mexico City where she worked in theater as an actress and director. She was involved in over two dozen productions and also worked on television, including the popular series "Mujer, Casos de la Vida Real" (Women, Real Life Cases), which dealt with real-life stories of topics such as rape and domestic violence. Barraza directed many episodes of the show and worked on it for eight years. She also participated in the creation of several other television series.

Rise to International Recognition

Barraza's career received a significant boost when she collaborated with Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu. Her first major role in his film "Amores Perros" (Love's a Bitch) brought her international recognition. The film was the first part of the "Trilogy of Death" and received critical acclaim worldwide, including an Academy Award nomination for Best Foreign Language Film. In 2008, she landed a supporting role in "Henry Pool is Here." More recently, Barraza appeared in films such as Sam Raimi's "Drag Me to Hell" and the pseudo-documentary thriller "Rage." She returned to Mexico to star in the film "Tres piezas de amor en un fin de Semana" and continues to be in high demand for various projects.

Currently, Barraza's schedule is booked almost until the end of 2010. Her talent and versatility have made her one of the most respected actresses in both Mexican and international cinema.
