Agidius Borzaga
Austrian Cellist
Carl Borzaga was an Austrian cellist who played in the orchestra of the Vienna Court Chapel from 1837 onward.
Early Career
During 1836-1837, Borzaga performed as part of Leopold Jansa's string quartet. He did not participate in the new composition of Jansa's quartet that emerged in 1845, and instead played in Count Czartoryski's quartet, led by Josef Mayseder.
Return to Jansa's Quartet
After the three other members of Count Czartoryski's quartet formed the Hellmesberger Quartet with a new first violinist in 1849, Jansa invited Borzaga to rejoin him for performances. However, this collaboration only lasted for a few months.
Joining the Hellmesberger Quartet
Following Jansa's departure for a tour in Great Britain, Borzaga was invited to join the Hellmesberger Quartet five years later. He remained with the quartet until his death.
