Aghil Guliyev, National Hero of Azerbaijan
Early Life and EducationAghil Guliyev was born on September 19, 1963, in the village of Uруд in the Sisian region of the Armenian SSR. After completing high school in 1980, he enrolled in the Azerbaijan Institute of Oil and Chemistry. During his third year of study, he was conscripted into the military.
Army Career
In 1982, Guliyev joined the Kharkiv Higher School of Militia. Upon graduating, he returned to Azerbaijan. In 1992, he was appointed as a company commander and deployed to Aghdam.
Defense of Khojaly
Guliyev played a significant role in defending the town of Khojaly from Armenian forces. On February 25, 1992, he sustained severe injuries and ultimately gave his life in the defense of the town.
National Recognition
In recognition of his bravery, President Abulfaz Elchibey awarded Guliyev the National Hero of Azerbaijan title on June 7, 1992. He was bestowed this honor posthumously.
Legacy
A street in the Bayilovo settlement of Baku is named in honor of National Hero Guliyev Aghil. His sacrifice and heroism continue to be revered throughout Azerbaijan.
