Ailsa Sara Keskitalo
Early Life and EducationAilsa Sara Keskitalo was born in Norway and raised in a Sami community. She pursued higher education and earned a Master's degree in Public Administration from Copenhagen Business School in 2005. Her thesis compared the higher education systems of Norway and Greenland.
Political Career
In 2005, Keskitalo became the third President of the Sami Parliament of Norway, making her the first woman to hold that position. However, she resigned in September 2007 due to differences with the Vice President.
Keskitalo was elected as the President of the Sami Parliament once again on October 16, 2013. She represented the Norwegian Sami Association, which she has led since 2008.
Detainment in Russia
In 2013, Keskitalo attended a meeting in Murmansk, Russia. She was detained by migration officials for violating visa regulations. She was released the same day after paying a fine.
Advocacy for Sami Rights
Keskitalo has been an outspoken advocate for Sami rights. She has called for the Sami Parliament to have veto power over mining projects, emphasizing the need to prioritize Sami interests and ensure sustainable development.
Family
Keskitalo is married to Nils Jürgen Nystø and has three daughters: Anja Márjá, Elina Kati, and Inga Ristin.
