Early Life and EducationAlain Chevalier was born on August 16, 1931, in Algiers, Algeria, to French colonialist parents. He pursued studies in law and political science before graduating from the prestigious École Nationale d'Administration (ENA) in 1959.
Early Career in Public Service
Chevalier served as an auditor for the French Court of Audit and held various positions within several ministries, including those of Algerian Affairs, National Education, and Industry. Deciding to leave public service, he joined the private sector.
Transforming Moët et Chandon
In 1970, Alain Chevalier became the CEO of Moët et Chandon, a renowned champagne producer. Under his leadership, he envisioned transforming Claude Moët's legacy into a global luxury conglomerate. By partnering with Robert de Vogüé, he initiated a rapid expansion through mergers and acquisitions, including Hennessy cognac, Christian Dior perfumes, and RoC cosmetics.
The Creation of LVMH
Merger and ExpansionIn 1987, Moët Hennessy merged with fashion house Louis Vuitton, led by Henry Recamier, creating LVMH. The merger marked the culmination of Chevalier's managerial career. However, he held no shares in either Moët Hennessy or LVMH.
Departure from LVMH
