Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha: Thai Billionaire and Football Club Owner

Early Life and Career

Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha was born into a Thai-Chinese family. He founded King Power Duty Free, a chain of duty-free stores, and served as its CEO. Forbes magazine ranked him ninth among the richest people in Thailand.

Acquisition of Leicester City

In August 2010, Srivaddhanaprabha acquired Leicester City, an English football club. He signed a three-year sponsorship deal on February 10, 2011, and became Leicester City's owner. His son, Aiyawatt Srivaddhanaprabha, is the club's vice-chairman.

Tragic Death

On October 27, 2018, Srivaddhanaprabha died in a helicopter crash. The AgustaWestland AW169 helicopter, belonging to Srivaddhanaprabha, lost control and plummeted into a car park at the King Power Stadium after experiencing a tail rotor failure. All five people on board were killed, including Srivaddhanaprabha, two members of his staff, the helicopter pilot, and a passenger.
