Early Life and Political Activism

Alain Krivine was born to Russian Jewish immigrants and became a central figure in the French Trotskyist movement. He began his political career in the French Communist Party (PCF) and rose through the ranks of the Communist Youth Movement. As a leader of the University Antifascist Front, he fought against supporters of the far-right OAS.

Break with the PCF and Founding of the Revolutionary Communist Youth

In 1966, Krivine was expelled from the PCF for his Trotskyist views and opposition to the party's support for François Mitterrand in the presidential election. He subsequently founded the Revolutionary Communist Youth (RCM), which played a significant role in the May 1968 uprisings in France.

Communist League and Presidential Candidate

The RCM merged with Pierre Frank's International Communist Party to form the Communist League (CL), where Krivine represented the organization as a presidential candidate in 1969, receiving 1.05% of the votes. The CL was banned by the government in 1973, but Krivine continued his activism through the Revolutionary Communist Front (RCF) and later the Revolutionary Communist League (LCR). He ran for president again in 1974, though with less success.

Political Leadership and International Involvement

Krivine served as a member of the LCR Politburo and the Executive Committee of the Fourth International. He was an MEP from 1999 to 2004, representing the LCR and Workers' Struggle. Krivine has also been a contributor to the LCR newspaper "Rouge" and Fourth International publications "Inprecor" and "International Viewpoint."

Formation of the New Anticapitalist Party (NPA)

In 2008–2009, Krivine played a key role in establishing the New Anticapitalist Party (NPA) in France, alongside Olivier Besancenot. The NPA was formed as a broad left-wing coalition to challenge the capitalist system and promote social justice.
