Early Life and Education

Hailing from Tbilisi

Gasanov was born on October 20, 1940, in Tbilisi, Georgia, into a working-class family. He attended Tbilisi Secondary School No. 43.

Academic Pursuits

After completing his secondary education, Gasanov pursued higher studies at the Azerbaijan Polytechnic Institute, graduating in 1962. He subsequently enrolled in the Baku Higher Party School, graduating in 1981.

Political Ascension

Komsomol Career

In 1963, Gasanov joined the Communist Party of the Soviet Union. He held various positions within the Baku Komsomol, including instructor, second secretary, and head of sector at the Central Committee of the Komsomol of the Azerbaijan SSR.

Prominent Roles

In 1981, Gasanov became Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Azerbaijan. In January 1990, he was appointed Chairman of the Council of Ministers of the Azerbaijan SSR.

Post-Independence Career

First Prime Minister

After Azerbaijan gained independence in 1991, Gasanov became the first Prime Minister of the newly independent republic, serving until April 1992.

Diplomatic Service

In April 1992, Gasanov was appointed Permanent Representative of the Republic of Azerbaijan to the United Nations. In 1993, he became Azerbaijan's Foreign Minister.

Removal from Office

On February 16, 1998, Gasanov was dismissed from his post as Foreign Minister due to alleged illegal activities related to the construction and operation of the "Europa" hotel in Baku.

Parliamentary Representation

Gasanov served as a Deputy in the Supreme Soviet of the USSR (10th convocation) and the Supreme Soviet of the Azerbaijan SSR (10th-12th convocations). He was also a Deputy in the Milli Mejlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan (1996-2000).

Membership in the Central Committee of the CPSU

Gasanov was a member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union from 1990 to 1991.

Literary Contributions
