Early Life and Education
Born the son of Friedrich Wilhelm Klöpper, also a theologian, August Klöpper embarked on his own theological journey at the University of Greifswald and Berlin from 1847 to 1851. In 1853, he earned his doctorate with a dissertation entitled "De origine Epistolarum ad Ephesios et Colossenses, etc."
Academic Career
In 1858, Klöpper qualified as a university lecturer (Habilitation). From 1866, he served as director of the university library in Königsberg. In 1875, he was appointed as Professor of New Testament Theology.
Publications
Klöpper's scholarly work focused primarily on apostolic epistles. His notable publications include:
- "Exegetisch kritische Untersuchungen über den zweiten Brief des Paulus an die Gemeinde zu Korinth" (Göttingen, 1869) - An exegetical and critical study of the Second Epistle to the Corinthians
- "Kommentar über das zweite Sendschreiben des Apostels Paulus an die Gemeinde zu Korinth" (Berlin, 1874) - A commentary on the Second Epistle to the Corinthians
- "Der Brief an die Kolosser kritisch untersucht und in seinem Verhätnisse zum Paulinischen Lehrbegriff exegetisch und biblisch-theologisch erörtert" (Berlin, 1882) - A critical study of the Epistle to the Colossians and its relationship to Pauline theology
