Knife in Eye
On a chilling x-ray, a 25-cm knife is distinctly visible piercing through Alberto's eye and into his brain. Remarkably, the 22-year-old Colombian, Alberto Palacio Vizcaíno, survived and retained his vision.

The Attack
Vizcaíno was a victim of a stabbing incident in his hometown of Soledad, where his sister's boyfriend, 22-year-old Daniel Del Valle Serrano, attacked him with a knife. The blade pierced his left eye, and Serrano fled the scene. Vizcaíno recounted that Serrano verbally abused him, grabbed a knife, and suddenly attacked him as he tried to distance himself.

18 Hours of Agony
Vizcaíno was rushed to a hospital, where he endured 18 agonizing hours with the knife still lodged in his head until a surgical team could be assembled to remove it. The 25-cm blade had penetrated approximately 8 cm into his skull, piercing his eye socket and brain. "I tried to remove the blade myself," Vizcaíno said, "but it wouldn't budge. It was too deep."

Miraculous Recovery
The surgery, led by neurosurgeon Alberto Da Acosta, proved to be a success. The medical team skillfully removed the knife, preserving 90% of Vizcaíno's vision while leaving his brain intact. "After the extraction of the knife, we evaluated the patient's state and found pupillary reflexes, which indicated a favorable prognosis," Dr. Acosta stated.
Relief and Gratitude
Vizcaíno expressed relief, exclaiming, "I can see perfectly. I haven't had any discomfort." While his condition was stable, Vizcaíno remained at the Clinica de la Misericordia in Barranquilla and may require further surgery.
