Lithuanian Priest and Jesuit Member

Albinas Dumbliauskas was a Lithuanian Catholic priest and member of the Jesuit Society. Born in 1925, he arrived in Kazakhstan in 1961, visiting believers in various cities, including Saran and Karaganda. He settled permanently in Kazakhstan in 1967.

Early Ministry

Dumbliauskas worked as a driver at a tuberculosis clinic while secretly conducting religious services. In 1977, the authorities permitted the opening of a parish in Karaganda, where Dumbliauskas became its rector.

Active Pastor

Dumbliauskas led an active ministry. In 1979 alone, he administered 39,000 communions over a four-month period. He celebrated four masses daily—two in the morning and two in the evening. That year, over 300 children received their First Communion. Thirty-two altar servers assisted in the services, and over 80 girls participated in processions.

Death and Legacy

Albinas Dumbliauskas passed away in 1991. He was laid to rest outside the church where he served as rector, which now stands as the Cathedral of Karaganda. His dedication and service to the Catholic community in Kazakhstan left a lasting legacy.
