Early Life and Education

Born into a working-class Ukrainian family, Alexander Mikhailovich Perepelitsa completed his seven-year education and entered a factory-run school for vocational training. Upon graduation, he worked as an instructor at the same school.

Military Service

In 1937, Perepelitsa joined the Red Army. A year later, he graduated from the prestigious Kachin Red Banner Military Aviation School.

World War II and Heroism

From August 1941, Perepelitsa served on the front lines of the Great Patriotic War as a squadron commander in the 165th Fighter Aviation Regiment, 44th Fighter Aviation Division, 6th Army, Southwestern Front.

By November 1941, Perepelitsa had flown 61 combat sorties, conducting reconnaissance, ground attacks, and escort missions. On October 21, 1941, his aircraft was damaged during a bombing raid, but he managed to land it near the front lines and return it to his unit.

Recognition and Sacrifice

On November 20, 1941, Perepelitsa was awarded the title Hero of the Soviet Union for his bravery and skill. However, tragedy struck on May 15, 1942, when he perished while carrying out a combat mission.

Legacy

In honor of his heroism, a bust of Alexander Mikhailovich Perepelitsa was erected in his hometown of Melitopol.
