Pyotr Abramov: A Courageous Artilleryman
Early Life and Military ServicePyotr Abramov was born on July 22, 1923, in the village of Edeleevo, Russia. Raised on a farm, he joined the Red Army in 1942. By April of that year, he was actively fighting in the Great Patriotic War.
Heroic Actions at the Vistula River
Abramov's bravery became evident during a battle on August 10, 1944, at the Vistula River in Poland. As the enemy launched a tank attack, Abramov, serving as a gun commander, single-handedly destroyed a heavy tank and two medium tanks, as well as an enemy gun. Even when his own weapon was neutralized, he continued to fight, using a machine gun to repel enemy infantry.
Recognition and Honor
For his extraordinary actions, Pyotr Abramov was awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union on February 21, 1945. Along with the Order of Lenin and the Golden Star medal, this prestigious honor recognized his courage and heroism.
Post-War Life
After the war, Abramov remained a senior sergeant and was demobilized from the Armed Forces. He returned to his hometown, where he became the manager of a reading room. Later, he moved to Ulyanovsk, where he worked as a technician in the city's capital construction department.
